Lethal Company, released in October 2023 by solo developer Zeekerss, has become iconic for its mix of horror and comedy that seems to generate nigh-infinite funny moment clips. The game is incredibly well received, having overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, a 7/10 on IGN, and a player-voted nomination for Steam’s Game of The Year award. The game consists of you teaming up with your friends to travel between moons and enter abandoned facilities to retrieve random assorted items, which you must sell to a company that does not care about you in the slightest.
The true strength of the game is in its tone, it is consistently silly as you mess around with your friends, the game even supplements this by giving comedic items like loud air horns or whoopie cushions, until a monster appears and takes one of your teammates, which either rips off your safety blanket and reminds you that it is a horror game first and a comedy game second, or it does nothing of the sort and only makes the situation even more ridiculous.
The randomly generated facilities combined with the cast of some of the greatest horror game monsters ever (such as the Eyeless Dogs that can hear you talk but can’t see you, the Bracken that stalks you through the facilities and hides if you spot it, or the neutral Hoarding Bugs, who only want more items for their collection) always make the game fresh and interesting. Each are different playthrough, as different combinations of monsters and locations change up the strategy every ingame day.
In conclusion, Lethal Company is an excellent game to play with your friends! It is consistently fun and scary, it doesn’t get old quickly, and more updates are on the horizon. Lethal Company is available for $9.99 on Steam.
