I interviewed my grandma, Lorena, on why she became a principal in the schools of El Salvador. The education system in El Salvador is very different from that in the United States. In El Salvador, you can get everything for free regarding school essentials, such as uniforms, notebooks, and food. The students have a social program and different laws. The main reason why Lorena became a principal was because she likes to teach kids, she hopes to help them become resourceful, and she wants to teach them new things. She also likes to share what she learns with her students so that they can become successful. She says that it can be difficult because she has to deal with people’s mannerisms. She enjoys her job because she likes to see positive results in other people and she says, “I’d like to see my students be something in life.” She shares that it took her around 5 years to be where she is right now. She states that the road to her success was very hard because there are challenges. I asked if her experience becoming a principal was hard and she said yes. She claimed that the current times are different than how they were, stating that there is less help in education now compared to before. When asked how she maintains a healthy workspace, she says that the key is to have a clean environment. She says that her job is challenging because she has to work with different behaviors and characteristics. When asked if she planned on changing career paths she said no. In conclusion, being a principal in El Salvador is no easy task but Lorena is up for the challenge.
