What do you think of when you hear the word exhibition? Well, to me, when I hear the word exhibition, I think of the comfiest clothes I’ve ever worn. When you read this, you will have more insight into why I said that because I will be introducing you to the man behind the brand “EXHIBITION.”
Before the interview, here is a quick little intro on Austin himself. Austin is originally from the Bay Area in California. He moved here to Seattle while his dad attended art school. Austin is 21 years old.
One of the first questions I asked Austin was, “Who influenced you to start making clothes?” He said he was a sophomore when he won a free giveaway – a hoodie. He talked about the atmosphere and the aura of two brothers working together chasing what they want. Another question I asked him was, “Why should we care about you and your brand?” He talked about how “whatever resonates with it, resonates with it.” This means if you like it, you like it. He said that he knows the true people who like it will always like it.
The next question I asked him was, “Are there any plans in the near future?” He talked about doing multiple pop-ups near the end of the year and then he talked about a big event called “Concrete Cup 2025.” This is an annual event he wants to start doing. He did one this year and he is planning to do one next year. The next question I asked him was, “How do you inform your fans on what you’re doing next?” After I asked him that, he talked about how he works with other people to help him through media, where he uses nostalgia and childhood memories to help inspire him to make his new clothing pieces. For example, he used images directed toward the old PlayStation 2 Memory Towers as part of a clothing piece.
The final questions I asked Austin were about his life and who inspired him. He gave the answer, “My dad was my biggest inspiration because he went to a school in Seattle while I watched him grow as an artist.” Another question I asked him was, “What was your final goal to end up with?” Austin replied, “I want to end up in Europe with shops over there.”
After those final questions, I would personally like to shoutout the brand as a whole! You can check out Austin’s work at https://www.instagram.com/exhibition.intl/ and https://exhibition.international/ and show him and his amazing work some love. If you’re planning to start your own clothing brand, make sure to have strong connections with genuine people that show love to what you are making.
