Renton High School football has gone through a lot of changes this school year such as two different coaches and a change in the program. The new head coach, Bryce Jones, had a plan to bring the team closer as a strong family, and that is what he did. His goal was also for the team to make it to state, which they did. They qualified for the first round, but they unfortunately lost to Tumwater in the opening round.
Head coach Bryce Jones has a big thing about everyone being closer together, and being a “strong family.” He would have the seniors and freshman work together, and the juniors and sophomores work with each other as well. Another type of bonding exercise is he would have 5 groups with 1 – 2 senior captains per group. After practices, he would split up the players into mixed groups and do little team competitions. He also hosted team dinners a day before each game where the players would chill, eat, and watch football.
Over the football season, there were so many new team mottos. For example, the coach says, “we all we got,” and everyone replies, “we all we need.” Another one that’s similar is when he says, “all gas” and everyone replies, “no brakes.” The main motto is “strong family” because our RHS football team is one big family, and they are all close together. One last common motto is the coach says, “how ya’ll feel?” and everyone replies, “good!” Then they do it another time, and then for the 3rd time the coach says, “I said how ya’ll feel?” and everyone replies, “damn good!”
The football culture and the family it brings is very important. It teaches the players real life skills and responsibilities, as well as helps young men become great in life when they get older.
