Macadons is a renowned macaron and ice cream shop located in Downtown Renton. This shop has grown into a thriving operation that produces over 10,000 macarons a week and employs a dedicated team of 24 individuals. I interviewed Michael Huynh, the owner of Macadons, to talk about his experience.

Michael Huynh (business owner) interview:
Q: How did your business Macadons start?
A: “Our business started in 2014. We had a lot of friends and it was around Christmas time. We wanted to get people something but we didn’t have a lot of money to spend. Macarons were just becoming very popular on social media, so we decided to make macarons for everyone for Christmas. From there, it organically grew into a business.”
Q: How did you come up with the name “Macadons”?
A: “Macadons, our company name is a play on the word “macaron.” When I started the business, I started it with a partner named Donna. So “macarons by Donna” to “Macadons.”
Q: What is your goal for Macadons?
A: “My goal for my Macadons business is to grow it to a point where everybody on our team has opportunities to grow with the business & work on things that they’re passionate about.”
Q: How is your business going so far?
A: “We are 11 years into this business, and there’s been really good times. But I appreciate all of it because even the difficult times really help me grow as an individual and as an entrepreneur as well.”
Q: What is your background?
A: “I was born and raised in Washington. I’ve been in Seattle for my whole life. I was not a very good student growing up because I didn’t care to learn about the things that school was teaching me. Now that I have my business, I am doing a lot of continuing education around business, and I really enjoy it. Prior to starting my business, I didn’t have any business experience or culinary education.”
In conclusion, Macadons has grown from a humble holiday tradition into a thriving business that not only serves delicious treats, but also fosters a strong sense of community. Under the leadership of Michael Huynh, the shop has become a beloved destination in Downtown Renton, producing thousands of macarons each week while providing opportunities for its employees to grow. Michael’s journey from an unconventional student to a successful entrepreneur showcases his dedication and passion for his craft. As Macadons continues to expand, it remains a sweet spot where flavor, creativity, and community come together.
