I went through the process of researching some differences and similarities between buying a new car versus buying a used car. I found that the public should use old vehicles. Tito Thacker has built cars from the ground up and he knows how they work. He has also told me multiple times that he thinks older cars are better and more fun. Now to get into some reasoning, he thinks older cars are better for multiple reasons including the fact that they are cheaper, and they are more reliable when you fix them up yourself because you know what has been done to them and since you have repaired/rebuilt it yourself, you know how to repair or fix it if it breaks down somewhere. Also, just a little something on top of that, electric vehicles have been proven by multiple researchers to be worse for the environment than a classic gas vehicle. We also need more people who can work on cars in general nowadays, because what’s going to happen is we’re not going to be able to fix our vehicles because no one knows how to do it. Who is going to be there to help you fix your car if you can’t do it? Plus, it’s just going to get more and more expensive to take it to a shop instead of being repaired by you.
Interview with Tito Thacker:
Where does he get his materials?
Multiple trusted sources like O’Reilly’s, RocAuto, Les Schwab, and Harbor Freight Tools.
Why does he rebuild them himself?
He rebuilds them himself because he has a passion for cars, and he also has an interest in saving money by doing it himself. It is more trusted for him to do it himself, and also more cost-efficient in general.
What is his favorite car he has rebuilt?
He said he doesn’t have a favorite car that he’s built, but his favorite experience was working with his dad on his 1970 Chevelle that he has had since he was 12.
Why is it important for people in today’s society to learn and know how to rebuild the cars themselves instead of just going to a shop or buying a brand-new car?
He said he thinks it’s important for people in today’s society to learn how to work on their cars themselves because it is way less expensive, and it’s better to learn because then you will know what is wrong with your car if something is to happen to it instead of having to take it to a shop and trust someone that you don’t know who may scam you. Also, it’s good for emergencies; if you break down somewhere, you will be able to fix it yourself.
Where did he learned to build cars?
He said he learned most of his skills for building cars from his dad when he was younger. His dad also had a passion for cars, and that made him want to learn about them.
Here are some pictures of the cars/trucks that he has built/rebuilt. Some of these cars he didn’t fully build or rebuild, but he added more to them and fixed them. There are 3 in here that he completely built from the ground up, and 2 that he fixed stuff and revamped:

One of the vehicles is a little newer, but even then he still bought it and fixed what was on it instead of just getting another one that was completely fixed. He believes that fixing them when you get them instead of buying something brand new is one, better for the car, and two, better for you.
If you’re interested in learning more about auto rebuilds, there is a lot of research out there. Likewise, you can attend car shows that illustrate this amazing hobby. For example, we have a car show coming soon to Renton. Hope to see you there!
