On October 11th was Renton High School’s homecoming dance! The theme was inspired by the 1994 film “Sleepless in Seattle.” The homecoming dance took place in the gymnasium and the cafeteria but in all honesty, the cafeteria took all the shine and action! It was covered head to toe with paper buildings on the walls and star shaped lights dangling on them, as well as a blue and silver ballooned alter.
There was also a DJ who was dooming with iconic and trendy songs this year (even the inappropriate ones…with censorship of course). Last year’s DJ played old school songs on loop, but not this year, because many students had the freedom to suggest songs.
From comments and interviews I had from other people who were in the gymnasium, it was mostly filled with games and didn’t have much of the “Sleepless in Seattle” magic. It was bright and had games like tossing the bag and Karaoke.
There was also a food stand where you could buy drinks like water and soda, as well as hot dogs, chips, and nachos. The drinks were $1, and the food was only $2.

My personal experience and point of view of homecoming was amazing. I enjoyed dancing with strangers, and I personally even impressed myself. There were a lot of twerk circles, electric shuffles, trains and surprisingly even mosh pits. I hope nights like these are unforgettable next year.
