A moment of silence
February 16, 2018
It was a dark day on February 14th when 17 lives were lost by a school shooter in the state of Florida. The shooter, Nikolas Cruz, took an Uber to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and pulled the fire alarm. He then proceeded to take the lives of 17 innocent individuals, including both students and staff. Cruz was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
The risk
Before this tragic day in 2018, there were reported to be many calls about Cruz to the authorities, but no arrests took place. The calls included an array of incidents that involved reports of the harm upon his brothers and calling his mother profane names at the age of 12.
The therapist that was treating Cruz claimed he was “Not being a harm to anyone or himself” despite the fact that Cruz was alleged to be self-harming and considering buying a gun. In addition, there are reports of Cruz involving himself in a white supremacist group and doing target practice with a BB gun.
He was expelled from his high school for disciplinary problems, but details have not been disclosed at this point.
Leading up to this event, Cruz posted animals the he had murdered online and statements of the desire to kill people with the guns that he had access to. A vlogger on YouTube reported the heinous comment of wanting to become a school shooter to the FBI.
In news articles, Cruz is being labeled as a broken boy, one that was has a mental issue that took over. In fact, Cruz was already a risk with his obsession for guns and murder.
