How to plan for a successful senior year

Senior year is one of the most exciting years of high-school.

It also tends to also be the most stressful.

There are things like college applications, senior projects, community service hours, prom and graduation all within the same year. And that’s not everything!

Feeling stressed about upcoming senior year? Currently in the middle of senior year? Or just need a little advice?

Follow this senior year checklist:

September: scholarship planning & high school beyond plan

  • Apply for scholarships to avoid last minute deadlines
  • Apply for FASFA / WASFA
  • Look into colleges
  • Watch deadlines applications for colleges

October : SAT /ACT testing

  • Take SAT / ACT test
  • Check back in on FASFA application
  • Set up college visits
  • Meet with school counselors see what’s needed to get into these colleges

November: doubling back

  • Request finical aid forms
  • Check on scholarships
  • Make sure you have letters of recommendation
  • Stay focused on GPA

January :  keeping track

  • Keep track of scholarships and deadlines
  • Stay on top of classes and missing work

March : choices

  • Start narrowing down college choices
  • Look for acceptance letters
  • Start looking for summer jobs

April : college closing point

  • Start sending thank you letters to colleges you don’t be attending
  • Look into finical aid to pay for college that you chose
  • Plan for registration and housing units
  • Plan for prom / graduation

May : triple checking

  • Attend orientations for colleges
  • Start preparing for college ( money , living)
  • Request for final transcripts
  • Pass all high school finals
  • Enjoy prom

June : The breeze

  • Graduate
  • Start planning transportation to college
  • Follow up with colleges
  • Enjoy college life
