The 8-circuit model
The map of consciousness
October 8, 2018
The 8 circuit model was first developed by Timothy Leary and Robert Anton Wilson, who further connected the ideas of Timothy Leary’s work in the 1960s and 70s. Leary’s model integrated the ideas of Eastern Hindu and Tantric teachings with Western Psychology and Psychedelic Exploration.
This map of consciousness and its system is used to understand the human nervous system. It is a tool used to further experience the awareness of consciousness in each of the 8 circuits. The understanding and use of this model will suggest that one’s life can change in remarkable ways because a transformation in consciousness is also a transformation in the experience of life.
Each individual circuit has a nature of consciousness. It represents a behavior mode from basic survival instinct to transcendental perception. The lower circuits (1-4) model a more animalistic nature, while the higher circuits (5-8) model ecstatic natures which transcend time and space. Each of the 8 circuits can be linked to the chakra system from the east, but this is only an analogy to further help visualize the 8 circuits. Circuits 1-7 line up with the 7 chakra system located in the human body. Circuit 1 corresponds to the base chakra and so on, but each circuit does not exactly correspond to the eastern teachings of the east. The map is not the territory.
The 8 circuit model follows:
Circuit 1: The Oral Bio Survival Circuit.
This is the pure survival mode of mammals, including humans. The act of going forward to the nourishing, the protective or going away from the threatening, the predator. It governs whether or not the organism will view the world as a safe place or not.
Circuit 2: The Anal Emotional-Territorial Circuit.
This is the experience of when a toddler learns to walk. It activates one’s dexterity and manipulation of the physical and political. It governs domination versus submission.
Circuit 3: The Time-Binding Semantic Circuit.
This rules over language and the intellect. It is experienced through the process of learning how to read and write. It governs fluency versus inarticulateness.
Circuit 4: The Moral Socio-Sexual Circuit.
This is activated through hormonal changes during puberty. It mutates the body into adult form and gives people ideas on what is right and wrong. It governs being moral or immoral.
Circuit 5: The Holistic Neurosomatic Circuit.
This deals with feeling ecstatic or being elevated. It includes practices such as literature, music, yoga, athletics, etc. This lifts people from the mundane and restrictions from the previous circuits.
Circuit 6: The Meta-Programming Circuit.
This deals with changing conception of reality. That means dropping old belief patterns from previous circuits and reintegrating new beliefs. If one has focus and technique, then one can perceive or interact with the universe in a different way.
Circuit 7: The Collective Neurogenetic Circuit.
This is the collective unconscious. It is humanity’s evolution history in the human DNA. It has direct communication with the universe.
Circuit 8: The Non-Local Quantum Circuit.
This is the galactic mind. It is the ability to communicate to otherworldly intelligence. Near death experiences, paranormal experiences can be experienced through this circuit.
