Smoking needs to stop

Kierra Frazier, Staff Writer

Smoking cigarettes has become a huge part of many people´s daily lives. The reason people smoke cigarettes so much is because it´s addicting.

Cigarettes are made of dried tobacco leaves and nicotine. Nicotine is the main reason for people´s addiction to cigarettes. Not only is it addicting, it can lead to many harmful health conditions such as:

  • Stressed heart
  • Effect to the brain
  • Broken bones

This is why people should cut down on smoking or quit completely.

The heart is one of the most affected parts of the body when it comes to smoking cigarettes.

According to Smokefree.gov, ¨Smoking raises your blood pressure and puts stress on your heart. Over time, stress on the heart can weaken it, making it less able to pump blood to other parts of your body. Carbon monoxide from inhaled cigarette smoke also contributes to lack of oxygen, making the heart work even harder. This increases the risk of heart disease, including heart attacks.¨

Another effected part of the body from smoking is the brain.

According to erywellmind.com, ¨When a person inhales cigarette smoke, the nicotine in the smoke is rapidly absorbed into the blood and starts affecting with brain within 10 seconds.¨

The bones in a body are also a very important part that gets affected by cigarette smoke. Bones help provide a frame for the body; they protect vital organs and the heart. If the bones are constantly breaking because of consuming the smoke from cigarettes, the body is not going to be able to function the way that it should.

If people were to live without smoking, they would have a higher and better chance of having healthier and longer lives, and would also have the option to save money for buying things they actually need to survive.

Lastly, if smoking were to stop today, it would set a better example for the younger generations, to encourage them not to smoke and make better life choices.

In conclusion, bad smoking habits have a negative effect on the human body and to the younger generations. This is why smoking needs to be cut down or stopped completely.
