Renton Girls Basketball Senior Night

Kierra Frazier, Staff Writer

On Friday, January 25, Renton High School girls´ basketball team played their last game of the season against Highline High School. Not only was it the last game of the season, but it was also senior night.

The purpose of “senior night,” is to show appreciation for and acknowledge all the seniors that have played for the basketball team throughout their four years of high school. To send those seniors off in style, the JV team and the parents of the seniors made posters. Each poster had the senior’s first and last names on them and they also gave the seniors a bunch of candy. In addition, they brought flowers and balloons to show how proud they were, of the seniors, for making it through all four years of high school basketball and showing much improvement along the way.

The five seniors who were recognized were Tamika Barbee-Welch, Sean Benning, AJ Vasser, Amhia Morgan, and Shellou Tumbaga.

To kick the game off, all five seniors started because it was their night to shine. The game did not start off too well. There were many back-to-back turn overs because of bad passes, there were fouls being called against Renton that drew Highline on the free throw line, as well as many missed lay-ups.

Things finally started to progress during second quarter when there were new players in. There were better passes, no foul trouble, and all lay ups were made. By time first and second quarter was over the score was 25-21 (Renton).

To start the second half of the game off senior Sean Benning, hit about six three pointers in a row which held Renton up with the lead. From there on the Renton girls were working very well together as a team, with good assist passes, making their lay ups, and making most of their free throws.

After the third and fourth quarter was over the final score was 61-36 (Renton).

These girls have had an amazing season once again. Off to playoffs they go! Go Indians!
