2019 Arnie Young Invitational track meet
May 2, 2019
On Saturday, April 6th 2019, the annual Arnie Young Invitational track meet took place at Renton Memorial Stadium.
Various schools, families, and communities across the Puget Sound came together to display feats of athleticism. Though track is a mostly individual-based sport, being collaborative and training as a team yields effective methods of bonding and bettering oneself.
The meet, which consisted of twenty-four high schools schools ranging from schools North of the Sound like Bishop Blanchet, to Gig Harbor high school down South, included Renton High School, and lasted nearly 7 hours in total.
The event was for the highly competitive, and only a select few were allowed participation into the event: each event allowed a max of two competitors per event, meaning only the best of every school were allowed entry. The events were comprised of 100, 200, 400, 800 meter races, 1200, 1600, 3200 meter races, 110, 300 meter hurdles, various relay, throwing, and jumping events.
These types of competitions are stepping stones that aim to push the limits of the competitors throughout the season.
Though they were not victorious, athletes of The Renton High School claim their ideology to work to better themselves. Highlighted performances by our Renton High School participants included, Tyler T. (200, 400 meter), Mekias K. (800, 1600 meters), Richie D. (3200 meters), Aisreyana D. (100 meter), Zoe O. (1600 meter), Katelynn A. (3200 meter), Meleana M. (Throwing events), and Amira M.
(Jumping), and many unnamed others.
The most recent meet occurred on Thursday, April 18th against Foster High School. The next upcoming track meet for athletes of Renton High is the 2019 Bellevue Track & Field Invitational on Friday, April 19th at 10:00 AM.
