Typhoon Vamco’s Major Effect on Philippines Amidst Pandemic
December 3, 2020
Typhoon Vamco (also known as Typhoon Ulysses, in the Philippines) wiped out the Northern island of Luzon leaving over 74 dead and 19 missing on record. The typhoon started creeping up on November 8th and settled down on November 15th. Its activity may have lasted for a week, but its effects have drastically changed the millions of people within these developing communities. The category-2 super typhoon rose the water levels around the area over 72 feet and has been pictured to almost reach the roofs of the residents’ homes. These floods have damaged the residents’ buildings, crops (which is a heavy dependent source of income in the Philippines), current education system, power sources, homes, and their fellow neighbors/family members’ lives. Alone, it would take an excessive amount of time for them to restore and regain their necessities but realistically, their lives have changed forever. To minimize this struggling time, there have been Instagram pages, donation centers, and organizations set in place for people around the world to provide materials, learn more about it, and donate (some are listed below).Regardless of where you live, it is open for donations all throughout the world and would support fellow brothers, sisters, mothers, children, etc. that have been affected. Simply acknowledging and educating others about this can do wonders and provides the basic needs all of us humans need to survive.
