Picture of our Principal Dr. San Martin

Have you met our principal Dr. San Martin? She was born in Italy, lived in South America, Peru and Europe. She has lived here since she was 19 years old. She speaks Spanish, English, Italian, and German. She has always loved traveling as we can see by the places she has been. You might want to ask her about her experiences there!

Before she started working in the teaching profession she was an accountant and worked with business taxes. Around 1998 she was working as a director of operations for a company that had different areas of operation, one of them being a school. So as she was doing the businesses for it, she loved walking through the school and seeing the teachers teaching the students there. She fell in love with it. She asked the founder of the company if she could serve for them and that is how she started her teaching career.

In 2001 she earned her teaching degree, after that she started working at the Seattle School District for 5 years. Then she became a dean of students at Seattle Public Schools. She worked at Hazen High School as an assistant principal for a bilingual school prior to working at Hazen. Then she was transferred to Renton High School as an assistant principal and has been working here for 4-5 years before she became a principal in 2013.

She tells me that this is a job you have to enjoy doing because it can be a lot of work. The enjoyment is lengthy, it comes from being here early in the morning and looking at the faces of all the different types of students. The part that gives her the most joy is being able to go to the classes and observe the teachers and see the students.

We all thank Dr. San Martin for helping Renton High School become a better place for our students and teachers.
