Learning About DECA
DECA is a student-led business club. It helps students develop many new skills. DECA shows individuals how to be on time and professional when going into the work field. This club promotes business attributes when coming across real-life experiences.
I met with Aniaha Hughes this week and asked why she joined DECA. She told me this: “DECA is an open-hearted community, they are very supportive when it comes to new members.” From my knowledge, they also have wonderful Officers. Their officers include President Kaylee Yeung and Vice President of Community Angela Vu.
My Experience With DECA
On Saturday, October 28th, I attended CTSO JAM at Hazen High School, I was competing in the Job interview at 11:45. I was nervous because this was my first competition as a DECA member and I didn’t want to let anyone down. I ended up scoring well. I got 94/100 but unfortunately did not place in the top 10, but our Vice President Angela Vu ended up placing in the top 10! Even though I was disappointed I was still excited to be a part of this DECA experience. I loved meeting new people and talking to the people in my chapter. I’m very excited to attend FLC and create a greater bond with them.

Opportunities DECA Provides for Individuals
DECA is also filled with many wonderful opportunities. One amazing opportunity is being able to travel and visit many different states. Last year they went to Orlando, Florida! Fun right?
You should consider joining this club. They offer many opportunities to individuals such as competing, learning leadership skills, and teaching networking skills. DECA provides many conferences and workshops you can attend, you can also practice real-world business skills. DECA also focuses on 21st-century skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving; this helps individuals to be successful in the business world.
As I met with Aniaha Hughes I asked her “What are your favorite things about competing?” She told me “I enjoy the competitions because I get to show the areas I grew in such as areas of finance and hospitality. I also get to meet new people at competitions and make new friends with other students from different locations.”
