Multicultural Event 2018

Renton High School’s annual, multicultural week is always a time where students from all different backgrounds get the chance to fully explore and showcase the ins and outs of their cultures. This year, multicultural week spanned from March 19th to March 24th.

Everything from cooking and songs to dance performances allowed the students of Renton to embrace their own heritage and also delve into the intricacies of other cultures they might not have known much about before.

Though the week was filled with many different types of events and activities, the highlight is undoubtedly the multicultural show. Students got the chance to see the show during their advisory periods, and the community, as well as any students who wished to attend, were able to see an extended version of the show on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

One of the groups that performed was the Latin Student Union (LSU). They were able to showcase their culture with both traditional dances as well as with some more modern songs.

They had three separate numbers prepared that allowed the audience to see the variation and beauty present in Latin American communities. Daniela Cruz, a member of LSU, gives more insight into their performance.

“There’s a wide variety of Hispanics and Latinos that we like to incorporate throughout multi and the dances that we preform,” explained Cruz.

Dancers had been practicing their routine since last fall and finally got the chance to show it to the students of Renton.

“Everyone really enjoys our traditional dance that we do in the beginning,” adds Cruz. “It’s been pretty exciting, you know, you hear everyone cheering for you, being happy to see you.”

Ultimately, the multicultural week performances meant that the members of LSU were able to shine and showcase the range of their talents and traditions.

“I’m just really glad about where I come from and my roots, and I’m glad that I’m able to embrace that throughout multicultural week,” Cruz said.

LSU meets every Tuesday at 2:15 in Mr. Diaz’s room.
