Advancements in the photography industry

The photography industry is always growing. But in the last few months, huge plans have been announced.

Panasonic has paired with Nikon and Canon to release the first ever full-frame mirrorless camera models. With this type of technology, not only in the nation, but the Renton community alone could be looking towards major advancements in the creative art fields.

Most people are familiar with DSLR models.

DSLR cameras hold what is called a mirror box. A mirror box is the most critical part to a DSLR camera’s makeup. The mirror box helps sharpen the focus, for precise and well detailed photos. It was once considered impossible to have professional photographed pictures without this mirror box, but in these last months, Panasonic has been able to defy odds.

By removing the mirror box, cameras become smaller and more efficient for traveling photographers. Replacements to the optical viewfinder help give photos that clear image, the same concept of a mirror box.

I wanted to find out how helpful these new changes could be to younger people in the photography world, and attending a school with a photography program made this easy.

Over the week, I got the chance to meet with a student here at RHS. Kathy Phan is a sophomore in the RHS photography class taught by Ms. Moore. When asked about these new models, Phan had much to share.

According to Phan, “ These mirrorless cameras will impact greatly…especially for traveling photographers who don’t want to carry a lot of equipment. With these cameras, it will make taking photos that much easier.”

Not only do these cameras get the job done, they do it more efficiently. This is important because time is a very tricky concept in the photography world.

When I asked Phan about how these cameras could impact the RHS photography class alone she gave her opinion.

“It depends on the student’s style of photography. Those who want to take photos while traveling could really benefit from these cameras, but personally I don’t think I could benefit,” Phan stated.

Although these camera models might not be for everyone, you won’t know if that person is you until you give them a try. These cameras may have a price tag on them, but if you are passionate about photography and are willing to try a new model– you should consider Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless models!
