Greyhound Busses Cruising through World War 2

Did you know that Greyhound buses were used in World War 2?  Yes, Greyhound buses were used in WW2 during the war. People that served in the war had no cars to get from place to place and when Greyhound buses came along, they had someone take them to every place they had to go to. Research proves this along with the experiences of two people I had the opportunity to interview, Mr Clifford and Jesse Guerrero.

Mr Clifford’s Interview

Q: What was Greyhound like in WW2?

A: Greyhound was if you could not pay for the train, Greyhound would transport you if you could not pay for a train.

Q:  Why did Greyhound buses shut down in WW2?

A: It was because of the war and a lot of shops were shutting down, and a lot of the Greyhound buses were in the war,

but it was very difficult.

Q: What happened when a Greyhound bus broke down in WW2?

A: If a greyhound bus breaks down, they have extra buses and they have someone fix the buses.

Q: What was the meaning of Greyhound?

A: That they will get there faster and smoothly.

Q: When Greyhound shuts down, how did people get from place to place?

A: Most people took the trains and automobiles.

This teacher knew everything about Greyhound in WW2 and when I was interviewing the other person, he only knew a little bit about Greyhound buses.

Jesse Guerrero’s Interview:

Q: What was Greyhound like in WW2?

A:  Greyhound transported the military.

Q: Why did Greyhound bus shut down?

A:  There was a strike from 1986-1990. Shut down WW2 to transport the military.

Q: What happens when a Greyhound bus breaks down?

A: The driver will call MRD to report what was happening to the bus. The driver may be asked to try different things to see if they can get the bus going. If that does not work, they will send a vendor out to fix the bus roadside, or we will send a rescue bus.

Q: What is the meaning of Greyhound?

A: They adopted the name in 1929.

Q: When Greyhound shuts down, how did people get from place to place?

A: People took the train.

From these answers, I was shocked by a Greyhound worker who has worked there for 14 years.  He knew a little bit about Greyhound and he knew more things about what to do when the bus breaks down. He knows this because it happens to Greyhound often nowadays.

In conclusion, Greyhound buses were used for different things in WW2, and now they’re used in different locations in the USA. They are an important form of transportation past and present.

Fun facts about Greyhound: it was originally a town-to-town transport service for miners in Minnesota.
