Basketball at Renton High School is a very popular and prominent sport around here thanks to our number one player, Sudan Luok (“Su”). He is 6 ‘5 with a 7-foot wingspan and a 40-inch vertical, and he ranked 9th in the state at only 17 years old.
Before Sudan became the amazing basketball player he is today, he started playing the sport in the second grade growing up watching his big brother, Buay. Sudan really started taking basketball seriously by the 5th grade. Ever since then he has dedicated his life to the sport. In Sudan’s words, “basketball is the only way and the main thing.” He is motivated by his family, but especially by his little brother, Yoal, telling him to keep going. With these words of encouragement, and his family rooting for him, he has achieved so many accolades. He recently dunked in one of the top players in the state and has scored over 290 points during the season.
As I talked to Sudan, you can tell that he is all about basketball! From having a 3.9 GPA, to never missing a practice and taking every shot, every rep, and every sprint in the game, he has dedicated his life to basketball. The sky is the limit for him. He currently has a couple looks and interest from some colleges. Sudan said, “The goal is to win state.” With that mindset, he is bound to get an offer!
The interview I had with Sudan was very motivating and very inspiring. Sudan is a regal human, and he encourages us to push for our goals and to work hard. Sudan said, “The sky is the limit, no one can stop you but yourself, so keep pushing and one day you can make it!”
