Rashaad Powell is a former student of Renton High School. He graduated in 1999 and he now works here as our vice principal, athletic director, and boys’ basketball coach. He is helping Renton High become strong in sports again.
From Student to Coach
When Mr. Powell was a student at Renton High, he was a star basketball player. He later played college basketball at the University of Idaho and professionally. After his playing career, he came back to Renton High School to help students and coach basketball. He says it is a tremendous honor to return to the school he once played for. He wants to help students do well in both sports and school. He believes that being a good student is more important than being a good athlete.
Leading Renton to Success
As the boys’ basketball coach, Mr. Powell has helped the team win many games. Under his leadership, Renton High School has become one of the best teams in the KingCo 2A league. He also works hard to support other sports at our school. He wants students and families to come to games and be proud of their school. He tells students to always try their best in class as well as on the court.

Coach of the Year
Due to his hard work, Mr. Powell has won “Coach of the Year” two times (in 2023 and 2024). Students and teachers say he is a great leader and a role model. He is known for being kind and always wanting the best for his players.
He also started a youth basketball program in Renton to help younger kids learn the game and have fun.

A Leader in the Community
Mr. Powell is more than just a coach, he is a mentor. He helps students grow as people. Many say he brings the school and the community together. He is proud of Renton High School, and now Renton High is proud of him.
