Arbor Day beautification at Tiffany Park

On April 28th, students of Renton High School worked together at Tiffany Park to restore and beautify the landscape in an annual event put on by the City of Renton. A group of RHS Ambassadors and other student volunteers did everything from planting trees to laying wood chip and mulch. It was early and raining that Saturday morning, but people still showed up to work hard and support their community.

Not a lot of people do something for Arbor Day, but it is important to celebrate and recognize the value of nature in everyday life as well as the steps that each person can do to improve it. The event started at 9 am and ran until 11:30 when lunch was served to all the hungry volunteers. In the span of two and a half hours, volunteers were able to add a multitude of new trees and flowers to the park that will continue to grow in the following months and years.

Events like these are also open opportunities for a number of different ages. Adults and young children alike all had a role to play in the beautification process, and everyone worked hard to accomplish the original environmental goals. The group was made up of such a wide array of people from different backgrounds and circumstances, further adding to the communal aspect of the project.

The City of Renton has many projects continually going on that aim to better the Renton area. Some of these occur annually, but others are one time events, giving interested volunteers a variety of options should they want to participate. Regardless of the time of year, there is always something that can be done to improve the community.

Volunteers can register for events on the City of Renton website. The navigation of the site allows people to easily distinguish between projects. However, it should be mentioned that any volunteers under the age of 18 must have a permission slip from a parent or guardian.
