Transferring schools is never easy, but for Brayden Bray, the move to Renton High School has been a positive turning point, thanks to basketball.
“I love Renton and all the inviting people here,” Brayden said. Though the transition was challenging at first, the game he loves made all the difference. “At first it was difficult because I didn’t know anyone, but after I made friends through basketball, I liked it way more than my old school.” Basketball helped Brayden feel at home, offering both a sense of community and purpose. “The basketball season helped me make so many friends and connections throughout the community,” he shared.
It wasn’t just the social connections that made the season special. “My favorite thing about the basketball season was getting a chance to come and compete and get better every day,” he said. “Basketball helps me with everything—I love the ball.” The season also gave Brayden a new perspective and growth. “The skill I gained from the basketball season was finding the best way to help out my team with what is given to me.”
Reflecting on his old school, Brayden noted, “Renton, compared to my old school, is super diverse and welcoming compared to my old one.”
When asked about his favorite moment this season, his answer was simple but heartfelt, “Being able to grind every day with the basketball team.”
As he looks to the future, Brayden is setting the bar. He is determined to help the varsity team have a successful year. “My goal for next season is to help varsity compete with the best teams in the state and have a successful season,” he said confidently.
His advice to others is “I would encourage everyone to give it a chance because there are so many ways to play and compete.”
For Brayden Bray, Renton High has become more than a new school—it’s become a new home. From a challenging transfer to becoming a key part of Renton’s basketball family, Brayden Bray has not only found a new school but also a new sense of purpose.
