On Friday, October 3rd, around 6:30 pm, a Black male in his 20’s approached a 57-year-old woman after she used an ATM at the Bank of America in the 300 block of Burnett Ave. South. According to the Renton Police Department (RPD), the woman was shot in the neck during the robbery after the struggle for her purse. The suspect fled. Authorities could not determine whether he escaped in a vehicle or on foot. The woman was immediately taken to the hospital. Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male in his 20’s, wearing all red clothing.
According to RPD spokesperson Meeghan Black, the incident qualifies as first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. Unfortunately, authorities have not yet located the suspect, and residents are increasingly concerned as robberies have become more frequent.
Many people have experienced robberies, and it’s always good to know what to do in such situations:
1. Remain calm and do not resist.
2. Do not argue if you need to move or reach into your pockets to give the
robber what they want. Your life is more important than your
belongings.
3. Make mental notes of the robber’s appearance (features including race,
age, height, hair and eye color, clothing, etc.) so you can describe the
suspect when filing your report.
4. Notice the robber’s actions so you can include them in your report. Try
to remember what they touched during the robbery so that police can
check those areas for fingerprints.
5. After the robbery, immediately go to a safe location, then report the
crime. Make sure you feel secure before you call 911 or the Department
of Public Safety (DPS). If you’re in an isolated area, move to a place with
other people and ask someone to stay with you while you wait for help.
