Renton Redhawk Girls Senior Night Game

The Renton High School Girls soccer team welcomed the Evergreen High School to Renton Stadium for Senior Night. On this frigid Tuesday evening, excitement was in the air as the event aimed to honor all that the 2024 soccer senior class had accomplished for the program. This enthusiasm was evident in the first half of the game as both sides played with aggression. The first half ended in a 0-0 draw at the interval as both teams squandered chances. The girls’ match had a fairly defensive first ten minutes. Laila Vieira did succeed in winning a corner kick.  A Spartans free kick almost midway through the first half resulted in a shot on goal. Vieira opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the game, and Junior Lidya provided the assist. In order to get away from the defenders, the duo moved the ball back and forth in front of the goal. Vieira then managed to hit a shot that went high in the left corner and past the goalie. The game ended with a 2-1 score resulting in Renton High School to win the match and both points from our school came from our ultimate senior Laila Vieira.

Having said that, I had the chance to interview our 12th grader Laila Vieira about that senior night game, “I’m so passionate about playing soccer because ever since I was young and playing the sport, I just love not only the competition but the connections made through the sport making me stick with it” she responded why she’s passionate about playing soccer. Vieira also said that one of the important lessons she had learned from her time playing soccer is that in order to grow, she needs to make mistakes and be able to learn from them. Moreover, I asked her what made their team win the match against Evergreen and she said it was definitely their dedication to win for the seniors and it being their last home game of the season. She also added, “improving our mindset of not only our next game being the last game of the league but the fact that we will move on past that to districts” on the question of what are things their team needed in order to improve for their upcoming games. Additionally,  I asked her how does it feel scoring two goals and she promptly replied that she feels very happy and proud of herself, but those chances wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the teammates who had set her up. Lastly, Laila Vieira said that she balances school and sports by simply adopting how she is going to manage those plus working, but just through planning and time management.  Luckily, she has been able to get through this season pretty stress free.
