Teacher Interview- Mrs. Khelghatian

Sarah Burkey, Staff Writer

A couple of days ago, I had the opportunity to interview Ms. Khelghatian, who has been a Language Arts teacher here at RHS for 7 years. When she was a child, everyone wanted her to be a teacher when she grew up. “Well, my mom was a principal so everybody wanted me to be a teacher. It was the last thing I wanted to do, so in college, I studied Public Relations and Journalism” She obviously found her way into teaching, though, and now is loved by many students.
Although there are many difficult aspects of teaching, such as “Managing a lot of personality types, and finding ways to keep them engaged”, Ms. Khelgatian believes she can get past these obstacles by doing lots of activities, having a lot of energy, and getting to know the students.
She also has children of her own, who help her thrive as a teacher. “My children help me be a better teacher, and I’m a better mom because I’m a teacher.”
I think it’s safe to say that Ms. Khelgatian loves her job as an LA teacher. “I love Language Arts. I love reading and writing.” … “I come home every day happy.”
It was great getting to know Ms. Khelghtian, how she came to be a teacher, and hear about her love of teaching.
