Several athletes captured state championships on Day 1 in field events and early finals, while others advanced into championship heats later in the meet. The atmosphere at Mount Tahoma was electric as athletes chased personal records and podium finishes under warm spring conditions. Schools from across the Seattle area, Spokane, Tacoma, and Eastern Washington were heavily represented throughout the opening day of competition.
Among the athletes competing at state were members of the Renton High School track and field team. The RedHawkS were represented by qualifiers who earned their spots through strong performances during the postseason and SeaKing District Championships. Renton long jumper Christian Chao, who came second in the district championship, was one of the school’s state qualifiers as the RedHawkS continued to build momentum against some of the top competition in Washington.
Renton athletes will look to continue representing their school well on the state’s biggest stage.
